A
Skills laboratory (SL) has been set up with the purpose of meeting
the teaching-learning needs of student nurses in the clinical seting.
The SL is made up of 12
stations which are compulsory for student competency in their clinical
practices and other important nursing procedures taught in each
semester of their training. These procedures would enable students
to provide total patient care to individual patients.
The objectives of the SL
are to :
-
Ensure the integration
between theory, principles and practice.
-
Facilitate learning
in the student on nursing procedures before they are send out
to the actual clinical practice setting.
-
Embrace the cognitive,
psychomotor and affective domains to determine competence for
clinical practice in the real clinical situation.
-
Enhance students to
think critically and identify ways to solve problems in the
clinical world.
-
Stimulate students
to analyze what reflective practice means to them.
